Bio

i'm Spawai. i play guitars.

Ok, let's add something here...

First, i dont really like writing my own biography because it's uninteresting n lame and will bore anyone who's reading it. so how do i start here?

When i was a kid, i dun remember how i knew The Beatles but i remember my fav song was "I want to hold your hand" and i have their cassettes and play it over and over in my dad's jeep. i will be lying next to the speaker at the back of the jeep and just sing along. One of the song in the tape was "Rock N Roll music". i think that's the day that i wanted to be a Rockstar! rockin n rollin.

When i was growing up, i started getting into what's hot.... stuffs from Vanilla Ice, MCHammer,Dr.Alban, etc etc etc & Michael Jackson...
MJ got the best video ever created. i was really into Pet Shop Boys "Go West". i remember i had a video that my sis borrowed from her fren. it was the video to "Go West", i've played that video over n over everytime...people at the house got sick of the music but i still keep playing it until the video was returned...

I dun remember how i start picking up the guitar but my cousin was playing it. i remembered that when he played the guitar and changed the chord from D to B Major , i think it was very difficult that i think i should change my mind n play drums instead,be Lars Ulrich.
And then Nirvana came out. "Smells like Teen Spirit" changed everything. i wanted to play the guitar and become a Kurt Cobain wannabe like everyone else. although the first song that i learnt was "More than Words" by Extreme. at the time i dun really know what is "shredding".
i remembered that i prefered Guns n Roses to Metallica, the first note to Welcome Home (Sanitarium) sounded like the first note to November Rain, i immediately stopped the tape because i tot it was GnR.

The early 90's and that decade alone shaped my music influences. it was mainly grunge & rock & more rock. Basically it was a "GUITAR" music. There were Nirvana, Alice in Chains, soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Metallica, GnR, Oasis came out ,Blur , Bush and more.

At this time i start to discover "Yngwie Malmsteen". this guy blew my mind. i din know classical music can be combine to metal and thus "neo-classical metal". My cousin is the real shredder, he exposed me to all these virtuosos...eg. Paul Gilbert, Petrucci, Malmsteen, Lynch,... so i started to find out the types of music these virtuoso wrote n played. By that time i was playing the guitar like 8 hours a day. after school, i just skipped lunch and play the guitar. it was acoustic (Kapok).

i went to Johor Malaysia when i bought Megadeth's "Rust in Peace"....i knew bout Megadeth but only a few songs from Youthanasia n the Countdown album. and Rust in Peace just blew it away! Marty Friedman solos and Mustaine's writing...it was crazy! i hold on dear to that record, it was the best album i've heard.

When i start to get into High School, i wasn't really playing the guitar, i immediately seemed to stopped playing but i still continue listening to music. and this time around Limp Bizkit was the hot stuffs. all these Nu-Metal/Hard Metal stuffs is the sh*t. so me and some high school frens started a band doing Limp Bizkit covers. named ourselves "13th project". played some underground gigs, i believed we were quite popular at the time. there werent any band doing LB stuffs.

After high school and a series of strict regulations regarding underground gigs, the band disbanded. there were no gigs to play and each guys were busy. it's unfortunate because we could have made an EP, wrote 5 original stuffs. but those are history now.

Our drummer start a band named 3belas doing original indonesian rock music and i was automatically the guitarist as i and the drummer are best friends but it was short-lived after a few gigs although it had a large fan based.

After a few years, new stuffs/music coming in, indie rock was the thing. i get together with a friend from work and he knew a fren who knew a fren who knew a fren and so on and i met up with his fren who was in a London metal band, Matahari. this fren then brought his fren who plays bass in Matahari to play in this new band. So there were 3 of us, me,Aya and boy the drummer met up with these 2 guys from Matahari and became I Mean The Snakes. you can find us here http://www.popfolio.net/imeanthesnakes/ .We were doing this indie rock thing. i can say that we were the first to do this indie rock in Brunei's music scene at the time. we wrote originals indie rock stuffs. With today's technologies (internet) and being in a small country that we have, we had a large and growing follower and fan-based. regular radio airplay. released an album and an EP. Everyone was talking about IMTS.

And It only took 3 years, IMTS had to be put in hiatus. Singer got married and moved to London.

Now, i'm just doing some solo stuffs and write new music with the rest of the guys and looking for a new singer (i think we've found one!) and no, we're not continuing as IMTS.

I'm Spawai. i play guitars.

How I Work With Others

Overview

How i work? i work when i'm inspired, mostly in the bathroom.

Just realised this is for "Working with others", so let me add something here...

Usually, when i was with my band, someone came up with an idea of a song and we work on it until it became a song. putting individual touch. i think thats how it works with everybody else..so yea...

Experience

i "Experienced" listening to music since the Pet Shop Boys went west...

/edit

Experienced with others.... did a proper recording/writing since IMTS, that was in 2006, so i have 4 years experienced of proper recording. if i need to include the "unproper" recording (working on my own), i think it was 96 or earlier, so that's 14 years...

Equipment

Guitar and a 6ft cable.
