About Me

Skill Level:
Amateur
Craft:
songwriter, mixing engineer, system administrator, singer
Instruments:
electric guitar, voice (male), keyboard
Genres:
rock, progressive rock, alternative rock, hard rock, metal, folk, electronic
Influences:
Pink Floyd, Genesis, Dream Theater, Rainbow, Jean-Michel Jarre, Gary Moore, Levellers, Marillion

I'm a guitar player who likes to record his song ideas on the computer using my gear (see below) that has accumulated over the past years. I also like working with the DAW to perfect the mix or to create soundscapes. I'm still developing as a musician but I feel that I'm making progress. I like music that is arranged with intelligence and variety but still preserves the natural feel that comes from exploring the soul of your instrument(s).

Working With Others

How I Work:

I record song ideas on my computer using a mix of outboard gear and software plug-ins. I use software instruments and effects but I prefer to use "real" synths, instruments and amps if I can. I try to get the best sound achievable with my semi-pro gear and within the restrictions of my home recording environment.

I prefer to work out arrangements (e.g. a guitar solo) with a mixture of experimenting and a more theoretical approach. I'm not much of an improvisationalist. I love to work on the details of the sound and the mix (up to a reasonable point).

Experience:

I played in a band in my teens (as the singer) and also played guitar a little bit. I picked up the guitar again when I was about 30 accompanying myself with camp fire style songs. Three years ago I bought an electric guitar again and have been taken lessons for over two years now. I occasionally play folk sessions or small gigs with friends but I don't have a band at the moment. I mainly work on my own song ideas in my home studio but I would like to collaborate on these songs with other musicians (or their songs) over the internet or meeting up. I don't see myself joining a band right now.
