About Me

Skill Level:
Professional
Craft:
recording engineer, producer, songwriter, musician
Instruments:
acoustic guitar, electric guitar
Genres:
alternative rock, folk rock, blues, jazz (all), ambient, space rock

It's mostly about the audio for me.
I'm a recording engineer/producer. I do location audio for video and film shoots. I do audio postproduction. I also shoot and edit video. (Canon XL2/FCP)

I produce singer/songwriters and bands. If a tune calls for something, we talk about it if it's their tune. I know a LOT of very good musicians. Normally they charge from $50 to $150 a song to come in and lay tracks. Using this technique, the exceptional abilities of others, I get very happy clients.

I also play acoustic and electric guitar, write songs and sing.

Working With Others

How I Work:

I have a Pro Tools-equipped studio bulit into my home. The acoustics are tight but live, very cool. I have great location audio gear as well.

I work 24/7 until I need to sleep, eat or have to chill.

Studio fees for music sessions and voiceover demos are $60/hr.
Studio fees for commercials, corporate/industrial, film and video are $80/hr.

I have several libraries of licensable production music and some sound effects.

Experience:

My mother bought me my first tape recorder when I was nine years old.

Seventeen years of major market, on-air radio performance plus being the Production Director at every station, handling the writing, voicing and production of hundreds if not thousands of commercials and promo announcements; that was my first career.

I also began producing local bands. In 1986, I left broadcasting to pursue writing, audio production and AFTRA/SAG talent work. My long hours in the on-air and production studio paid off. I quickly became one of the top voice talents in the Baltimore/Washington market.

I began writing articles for Radio World that year and continue to write for Radio World, Pro Audio Review, TV Technology and other magazines and web sites. In 1990, I converted my audio studio from analog tape-based to a DAW-based facility.

I now use a Digidesign Digi 002R and a G5 Mac to record and produce spoken word and music for video, radio and TV commercials and the web. I mix live sound and work as a location audio recorder and mixer for film and video shoots.

As a guitar player, music production has always been a part of my life. In 2000, I began to attract the attention of local singer/songwriters. Helping them create their music has been a very rewarding part of my life. I began shooting and editing video with a Canon XL2 and Final Cut Pro in 2005.

I’ve written two books; “Advanced Audio Production Techniques” and “Ty Ford’s Audio Bootcamp Field Guide.” I re-wrote the NAB’s handbook on radio commercial copywriting and have twice updated the microphone chapter in the weighty NAB Engineering Reference Manual.

Google “Ty Ford”...Audio...Talent and you’ll find more than you want to know. Also try www.tyford.com.

I am never bored.

The sound of the recording on sweet chariot is really good. A good mix. Something I have'nt been able to do. I think my songs are good but I need some help with the arrangements and the mix. I'll put another song on my site. Have a listen.

Hello,Your music and songs are Great! I enjoyed Embryo.I wished my sons and I could get our recordings to sound alot better than they do.We started trying to record our music about 2 years ago but we don't have the tools or knowledge to make them sound like we want them.We can't go into this full time yet for lack of funds. So were going to keep writing and maybe one day we can get in a studio and get some great recordings.Keep up the the great work and stay in touch!
