Wayne Murphy, Bear Grass Records owner and recording artist, has been performing acoustic driven music with a soul which lies somewhere between the urban skyline of Minneapolis and his home in the Rocky Mountains of Montana for over 20 years.

Currently Wayne is working to develop a presence for Bear Grass Records and its signed artists.

Wayne Murphy first picked up a guitar at the age of 15, after the deep rooted grooves of John Mayall’s “Turning Point” brought a fortuitous beginning to what would shape Wayne’s life for years to come: the pursuit of music. Since that very day, Wayne has spent most of his free time collecting, learning, performing and writing music. His journey has taken him through the annals of Americana, exploring the quiet folklore of Elizabeth Cotton and Woody Guthrie, the flat-picking virtuosity of Doc Watson, the soulful storytelling of John Prine; the barroom stomp of Los Lobos and the grit of John Hyatt.

Recently, Wayne has added another feather to his cap- harnessing his passion and talent in the studio recording music. Whether recording sessions of his own compositions, or helping out a promising singer, Wayne is constantly searching for innovative techniques of capturing the raw honesty of the acoustic instrument and the heart of the song. Note for note, Wayne continues to patiently give back his own contributions to the annals of the American music that shapes his life.

Working With Others

How I Work:

I feel that my style is pretty easy going, humble and easy to work with. All I really need is something to listen to, simple lyric sheets, chords and to have fun.

I have joined Indaba Music for a few reasons. First I wanted access to musicians for collaboration on projects I am currently working on, mostly for other musicians that are using my project studio. I like the idea of networking with a group of musicians from all different styles.

Second I want to offer my own skills to others projects. I know guitar players are a dime a dozen, but I feel that I am fairly versital in many styles and I may just fit the part someone is looking for. As far as an hourly rate - if you can afford throw a few bucks to my paypal - cool.

Thrid, I just like listening and talking music.

Experience:

Guitar has been my main instrument for over 20 years but I have experience with mandolin, resonator guitar and bass and have been recording music for nearly as long as I have been playing. I now own a small recording studio and indie record label.

Equipment:
Martin HD 28, Taylor G8, Guild 12 String and Fender guitars, Flinthill Mandolin, Paul Beard Resonator. Roland VS-2400 Digital Recorder, M-Audio, Rode, Studio Projects and Sure Microphones, Presonus Pre's
