We are so grateful that so many of you participated, and also to Indaba to give a platform to a band like Coalesce. It was especially interesting to see how many of you handled the multiple off times, and the challenges to making it flow in that framework. Session description: Re-imagine hardcore metal band, Coalesce's, song "Wild Ox Moan"... Hello Headphone Stoners! The song we've chosen for remixing is entitled "Wild Ox Moan" and is influenced by a song with the same name recorded in the early 1900's by Vera Hall, and rewritten time and time again as field hollers and blues songs by musicians like Rollie Lee Johnson, Big Joe Williams, and many others. Taj Mahal has done a more recent version of the Vera Hall recorded version. This is our updated interpretation of this piece of American culture and the unfillable void that the song has always been driven by. We recorded the song as a standard 4 piece rock band would with electric guitar, over-driven bass guitar, standard drum kit, and one vocalist. The intro bit features some back up vocals in a rotting stairwell, and a slide guitar dirtied up for vintage effect. Backwards phaser on the guitar feature in the middle, and some hidden beeps in the bridge are about all the studio candy that we added to this song. Other than that it is pure aggression. The challenge is up to the next artist who touches it: a remix, reinterpretation, or an entirely new song is ready for the making. Coalesce is always interested in making raw energetic music that still has enough hooks and interesting tricks to be fun for any music fan to listen to. If this can be maintained in a remix of "Wild Ox Moan" you will receive interweb high fives.
