No Song Loaded

Rock Baby, and Indaba peeps @ shows.

We just played a show in Toronto last night at Lee's Palace.  The show was filmed and recorded for a live DVD release (due out on EMI and Woz Records sometime next year)  At the same time, at the end of the show, we shot a live performance video for the song "Star Baby."  EMI wanted it because Star Baby is going to be the new single in Canada (also on Modern Rock radio in the US).  The thing is, since the version on the album was a bit too "light" and "pop" sounding for Canadian radio (which is primarily Rock), as well as for Modern Rock stations in the US, we went into the studio last month and recorded a faster, more guitar driven version of it.  It sounds great, retains all the good bits, and will obviously be WAY better for Rock and Modern Rock radio... but today it occurred to me that now I'm super bummed that the new version isn't on the album.  I guess we can always put it on the next run of CD's that get printed, but still... it feels kind of shitty having a song on the radio, knowing that people may buy the album for that song, but won't be getting the one they expected.  Anyway, that's my own anxiety.  Nobody I've talked to about it seems to think it's that big of a deal.  But still... I dunno, it just doesn't seem like a good idea.  Thoughts?  Opinions?  Anyone... anyone... Bueller?

On brighter note, at 3 of our last 5 shows (including the one last night in Toronto), there have been Indaba community members who have come out and introduced themselves to me, which has been really amazing.  I've had some great discussions with a couple of you guys.  Thanks for coming out and supporting the band!  And so I wanted to say, if anyone here in the community is planning to come out to one of the upcoming a shows, you have a standing invitation to come up and introduce yourself to me, whenever you see me (either before the show, or afterwards) to chat about the project, or the remixes, or just to say hello.  I'd love to meet you.  And if you want to buy me a beer, so much the better, I will absolutely return that favor! ;)  Cheers!

Yeah, that is kind of a bummer that its not on the cd already released, maybe release a radio version single asap? Cant wait to hear it! Also I'll be at two of you upcoming shows in Reading and West Chester, PA so I'll catch you there!

One idea might be to simply release the radio-edit on the re-mix album, too.

I remember the "good ol' days" when in order for a rock song to be played on the radio you had to "water it down" or soften it up with strings, or add a hip-hop beat.... Does this mean rock radio has changed for the better?

I think its odd. But I don't record songs with radio expectations either. I guess you gotta do what your heart and musical soul tells you to.

star baby is the single, i knew it from first 4 bars. its got a great lou reed bowiesque feel to it , and the middle 8 reminds me of McCartney. JJJ is a radio station here in australia that will jump on it, they played all your music.
