Like This contest is up!

Hey kids.  I'm very excited that we've got the remix contest for "Like This" up and running.  Can't wait to hear what you all do with it.  We will be giving as first prize 50% of the profits made from the purchase of the winning remix.  Yes, that is a good deal.  Your remix will be available on Beatport, iTunes, Juno UK, and many more.  We may do a vinyl release too.

I want to hear some original sounds so don't be afraid to not play it too safe.  I was in a class the other day and we were discussing going out of the box (conceptually, not analog vs. digital).  I've been thinking a lot about tracks that have permeated DJ sets and broken down walls by being experimental but having that one thing that keeps it in the genre.  It could be the tempo or the backbeat.  Imagine a track that only subscribes to one familiarity, like a common drum pattern, but everything else is completely original and crazy. Just something I've been thinking about for some new material that I'll be working on.  For your remix, just keep it original and true to what you'd like to hear.  I'm also interested in reading about  your processes and how you made the sounds that are in your track.

Best of luck to you.  Holla when you got something.

P.S.  If you live in the NY area, we're having a big album release party this Saturday, Sept 5th @ Santos Party House.  Details here.

Hey Phil, I dig your comments about, "..experimental..." & "...only subscribes to one familiarity."...

Cos I want, er, 'ave already actually, to completely re-invent the whole track, into an electro/house/rock/hip-pop kinda thing, jus' wanna check if'n it's ok wiv u dat I jus' use da vox, don't wanna offend ya.

Wicked, I knew you'd be cool about it.

It's cos I wanna give it a poppy edge without losing the underground vibe u got going.

It's sounding like Underground Pop wiv a Sixties twang, synths & drums are 90's/noughties but I might add some 80's synth riffs, depends, I've created some nice little vocal hooks from the rap, tell ya dude, it's beginning to sound on da money, def chartable methinks, we'll see eh.

peace & luv bruv

Er, now it's nearing completion, pop it ain't, wrong word, should've said, commercial.

Don't know why but it sounds kinda like a Wyclef Jean/Black Eyed Peas production, and strangely the, "Look into my eyes..." verse has a kinda Fresh Prince/De la Soul, old school feel.

Anyhow bruv it's sounding cool, credible and commercial.
