Kathryn Mientka - A "FEAST" of Peace around the World

When I found out about this competition, I decided to write a set of variations for my Celtic band, “FEAST”. The variations venture into different classical and ethnic styles, with a classical variation, a Middle Eastern variation, West European Renaissance modal variation, East European Gypsy/Klezmer, and finishing with an Irish Jig variation, since we are primarily a Celtic band! The variations are scored for two violins, viola, two cellos (one for my husband, cellist in the band, one for Mr. Ma!), piano, harp, and percussion. Many thanks to fantastic sister/brother violin team Cosima and Chris Luther; daughter Stephanie Mientka for her soulful viola; wonderful husband Tyme on both cello parts; percussion genius David Alderdice on drumset and frame drums; and brilliant harpist Janet Harriman. I am playing my Yamaha C-7 grand piano on the recording. My husband recorded all the tracks with ProTools on a Mac, all live musicians. Thanks for this opportunity!
